SUG 10th Parliament Holds Her First Seating

The newly elected 10th SUG parliament members held their first seating today 9th Feb 2018 at moot court, law faculty.

The Parliament held a procession from Vice chancellor office to the venue of the meeting which began by 12pm.

The deputy speaker led the opening prayer, followed immediately is a welcome address and inaugural speech by the speaker of the parliament Rt. Hon. Okoh Chinedu C.

In his speech he congratulated the senators and thank them for electing his as the speaker, he used the opportunity to remind them for the procedural nature of the Parliament which calls for an equal high level of commitment to the rules, regulations and procedures of the institution, he continued by saying ” the promotion of good governance requires a Parliament that can effectively perform the three cardinal function of; Representation, Oversight regarding the executive, oversight over the judiciary”.

He concluded by admonishing the senators on the need for togetherness so that the Parliament will actualize their mandate.

21 senators were appointed to chairman 21 different committees of the Parliament.
